How Do I Stay Creative?

Whenever I feel like I'm losing my creative juices, which does happen to me more often than you think, I always like to fall back on four fail-proof ways to get me going. I hope that what I’m going to share with you today will encourage you to get up on your feet, no matter if it’s today, tomorrow or a couple of days from now.

First off, I like going for walks. This allows me to clear my head, especially when my thoughts are all over the place. Walking is not only good for your health, but it’s also good for your brain. In fact, I’d always find new locations to do photo shoots, along with new creative ideas, whenever I would go for walks. Philadelphia is full of gems that not everyone notices. That's the best part about being an artist. You can see a lot of things that others may not see, especially in this field of photography. So, if you’re someone who needs to refresh his/her mind, take a walk or even a bike ride around the area you live in because you just might find something you’ve never seen before...

Secondly, I like being around positive people, specifically those who uplift me in what I do. I’m not only into photography, but I also do videography, photo retouching, graphic design, and writing. Therefore, the people that I choose to hang around are very important because they're the ones that are going to support me and my work. If you don't have any family members or friends that are going to pat you on the back or just be there for you, this can and will affect your creativeness whether you want it to or not. Stay far away from people who aren’t going to add to your creativity because they will deplete you of it. I'm grateful everyday for the friendships I have with the people I keep around me, along with the love of my family.

Third-of-all, I like listening to music. Honestly, I think that for any artist, music is something that adds to our creative vibe. As for me, I listen to alot of 80’s music such as Sting from The Police, one of his songs called It’s Probably Me. This relaxes my mind, along with a number of other songs like his. Trust me when I tell you, if you add listening to music with walking, together this is one heck of a combo (especially on a nice sunny day). Once I get into my zone I stay in “creative mode” much longer and I start thinking of all kinds of ideas. You should definitely try it!

Lastly, I like watching movies and anime, and playing/streaming video games. For example, I enjoy movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) like The Avengers and others alike. They keep me inspired because when I think of Marvel, I automatically think of its creator, Stan Lee, a man who never gave up on his dreams and has seen all his creations come to life on screen before passing away. He is one of many creators that I strive to be like. As an artist, it’s always good to find someone who inspires you. I promise you, it really helps with staying creative. Moving forward, as far as anime(s) and gaming/streaming goes, these are also great ways to keep things flowing. I can’t even begin to count how many of my ideas came from anime(s) I’ve watched or games I’ve played and/or streamed. The list goes on.
At the end of the day, it’s all about finding the right element to keep you going. What you decide to choose will determine whether you will set yourself on that path of success or not. Keep that in mind folks.
This is Keo...I’ll catch you guys on the next blog!
