Salsa Night at Bok Bar

Hey everyone coming at you with a new blog. I’ve been to many events like this from March till now, taking on jobs centered around events like salsa. These events pop-up all-over Philadelphia. So, seeking these events are very easy and most of the time are free depending on where they’re hosted. Look up local free events in philly no matter if it’s salsa, I will be putting links below to help you seek out these events!

was fairly shocked that an event was taken place at my old high school. I attended Bok Tech high years ago, the last time my foot stepped into the building was the day it closed. When my foot hit the first floor of the building so many memories ran through my head. These walls held so many challenges that came my way through high school life that made me into the man that I am today. The strange thing to me was getting carded before going down the hall to the elevator, because I’m sure I looked older then 20 but I understood why they did it. As I got to the elevator something came to my head, I’ve only gotten on the elevator a handful of times when going to Bok. That was because if you didn’t have a teacher or any adult riding with you there was no way you were getting on it.

Finally, the moment of truth came getting to the top floor. The view was beautiful but scary at the same time, I learned for the second time in my life that I’m afraid of heights but I’ll save that for another blog. Being on the roof of my high school was something my classmates and I talked about a lot. The legend of the top floors stated to have a swimming pool on the top floor, as my dad told me when I was in Bok at the time the 2 extra floors were used for the teachers. As young teens we had a lot of wild thoughts of what the school had, my mind went back to those thoughts gazing out at the open sky. There were lots of places to sit, eat, drink or to stand in the shade. They had booth areas where you can buy food and drinks along with a bar area to get mixed drinks made.

As I walked over, I seen the DJ area getting things set for Salsa Night. The cool thing was I seen who the teacher of Salsa night was Dj big George. I’ve met him about 3x at Izlas, he’s also a good friend with another Dj I know Slick Rick of BME. The floor was finally set and his free lessons got started around 7pm, the group he had was about 25 around that’s very big for lessons. He shows you in detail step by step but also how to dance with random people you don’t know, he stated that’s how you can tell you have learned salsa. I saw people of all ages that were learning but also knew steps already, however some wanted to be there for the social aspect of dancing. As the sun was going down more people were showing up to learn and switching out with other people, the funny thing was not just the dance floor was getting over taken the seating area as well.

Salsa night at Bok Bar was a lot of fun being at, I hope you the viewers enjoyed the blog. If you’re looking for a fun event to take some friends to or even a date Bok bar over all is an amazing place to be.
